There are typically more applicants for each job than ever before, thanks to the ease of online job applications and the increasing number of people with college degrees and other qualifications.

2. IT skills: Many jobs now require a level of technical proficiency that some people may not have, particularly those who didn’t grow up using computers or smartphones.
